New blog

I've created a new blog (as per Drew's recommendation) all about our garden. I'm hoping to make regular updates to the blog to chart our progress. It should also help us plan for next year's crop in terms of timing and space restrictions. Check our photo album regularly to see how we're doing, as we plan to update this as often as possible.

Garden bed

We've all been working really hard on creating a fruit/veggie/herb garden! We've built a raised garden bed and planted tomatoes, carrots, lettuce, spinach, cucumbers and green beans in it. We've also planted strawberries, mint, cilantro, basil and parsley in individual pots around the yard. I've posted a much longer and more detailed description of our project on my personal blog. We'll keep you posted on our progress!

Spring is Here!

We were out enjoying the warm weather this weekend. I spread some grass seed and noticed one of our trees along the side of our home starting to blossom. Check out more pictures of spring in action and a few of the kids taking pics of each other at my Picasa page.

RDS Has Lice... AGAIN!

For the sixth time this school year, Reston Day School has announced a head lice outbreak. I've never before encountered a school that had to weather more than two outbreaks in a school year. And these were much bigger schools. What is their deal?

Big Snow

This winter weather front has brought us the heaviest snowfall in several years. Six inches on the ground and it's still blowing snow! Later this day Shauna went out and got her car bumped at a stop light. Shoots! Everyone is ok, just some car damage. Looking forward to repairs... Ugh.

Snow Day!

We had our first real snow of the season today! In fact, it's starting to come down again in big, fat flakes, but we did get a chance to go outside earlier and play in the yard. We attempted to make a snowman, but it quickly degenerated into a snowball fight (there was no clear winner, though there were a lot of wet gloves, hats and pants). We had lots of fun playing in the snow!

GWU Inaugural Ball

Drew and I had the opportunity to attend the George Washington University Inaugural Ball on 20 January 2009. One of my friends from Tucson, William, brought his adorable honey, Thomas, with him out to attend the ball with us (and attend a small gathering on the National Mall earlier that morning). We had a wonderful time, though to be perfectly honest, I had more fun having dinner with the boys than I did being packed sardine-like into one of three ballrooms reserved for the evening. Still, it was fun to get dressed up - and didn't the boys look so incredibly handsome?
